Keep in mind that changes in arc length have a direct effect on current and resultant heat, and therefore it is better to produce a short arc higher current. High power is needed as stainless steel for low thermal conductivity, so you need more heat for stronger welding and deeper penetration.

Stainless steel can be divided into three broad categories.

At first, feed the filler wire into the torch and turn on the gas. Thread the wire through the reel of the MIG, and out through the torch end. You don’t need to push the wire. You can start welding once you have finished setting up the wire and enabled the gas. When you’re having trouble getting the wire through the torch, it’s probably not set properly. Open the torch and fix the location of the wire.
Hold the torch at an angle of 30 degrees above the joint point. What part of the joint you begin with doesn’t matter. Set the torch so that the tip of the flame reaches the edges of the pieces of metal. Do not use too much power, or else the steel burns! Immediately down the power when the heat melts the metal too fast before you get a beautiful, controllable liquid bead to work with.
You have to move the torch slowly to fill in the joint. And hold the torch always at a steady angle. When you push the torch forward, the flame pushes the bead along the joint. The fire will melt a little of the surrounding metal as well.
You need to make sure that the joint is filled in smoothly and uniformly before pushing the torch forward. If you drive too quickly, you’re not going to melt enough of the steel, so be careful at this moment.
Wait until you sense no more heat coming up from the metal before you handle it. Meanwhile, put the torch in a safe position, including a holster, until it also cools down.
When you have done welding, turn off the gas.
